Camgirl Museum Proposal

Welcome to The Camgirl Museum Project!

My name is Sunny and I want to build a virtual Camgirl Museum in the metaverse!

The metaverse is a virtual reality world that runs on the blockchain, which is accessible by a computer browser.

The Metaverse

There are two main metaverses, Voxels and Decentraland, but I suspect more and more are going to pop up as the technology advances. There are benefits and issues to building the museum in either Cryptovoxels or Decentraland. They’re both very different.

The museum itself would be a virtual building you could actually visit on your computer browser and walk through as an avatar, with revolving exhibits, just like a real museum. It would preserve the history of mid-90s to mid-2000s camgirls + notables beyond.

The Problem

I don’t know if any of my fellow OG camgirls have googled themselves or any E/N terms lately, but our history is disappearing from the internet. Archive.org started excluding Stile Project, for example, which was so instrumental in the progression of internet history and cam culture specifically, and now even Archive.org is gone because they tried to host a free, Alexandria-like library. 😔💔🪦

We Need To Set The Record Straight

Camgirls invented the digital selfie and the concept of reality television, not Paris Hilton.

The first of us were like astronauts landing on a new planet and speaking to 10 million inhabitants all at once, for the first time, unfiltered. Without the corporate cleansing, or the laws or regulations of network or cable television or radio, without the gatekeepers of publishing.

We were punk rock and DIY. We hand-coded our own websites.

Camgirls pioneered social media before social media existed.

Our LiveJournals, blogs, and websites got tens of thousands of daily visitors each and we supported each other by maintaining “webrings” because a lot of our history was pre-Google or when Google was in its infancy.

(The internet was a lot smaller then and those numbers were impressive at the time. We WERE the hot, famous girls on “social media”, like Paris Hilton or Kim Kardashian are now because they weren’t old enough yet.)

Camgirls are why you’re even able to buy porn or crypto or half the stuff you buy online now, nevermind easily. It was horny geeks who fuelled the progression of web commerce and most of them will freely admit it. Guess who they were horny for? CAMGIRLS.

Camgirls were selling art, zines & music online and running subscription sites before pretty much anyone. Most of us figuring out how to do it by ourselves.

Pre-eBay, pre-PayPal.
(And then PayPal banned us, so we had to find other solutions. God that sucked.)

Now we have Etsy, Kindle Direct Publishing, Kickstarter, Patreon and OnlyFans, just to name a few.

Not to mention, being a camgirl is now an honest-to-god career, one you can write on your tax return, where a woman can buy a house and support a family, on her own, and that career is supported by an entire billion dollar online adult industry!

You’re welcome?

There’s more, but anyone who knows their internet history or was there for it, knows OG camgirls pioneered a lot of the things that get taken for granted online today.

Cam culture has a rich, unique history of women in tech, supporting each other while bravely pioneering a new landscape that was 90% male at the time, and I think that’s worth building a monument to.

I’m still writing up the full proposal & working out the financial feasibility of something like this, but at first glance, it looks like something our community and the crypto community could come together and fund pretty easily.

In the meantime, if you happen to be a generous landowner in Decentraland and would like to donate it to The Camgirl Museum Project, please e-mail me. I am not interested in building on loaned or rented land, thank you!

If you’re a verifiable OG camgirl (mid-90s to mid-2000s) and want to get in on the planning of this or help or contribute in any way, I would love to have you onboard! Please e-mail me!

(Eventually this site will have a submission form to submit something to the museum and eventually I will have a guide up on how to mint & sell your vintage cam pics as NFTs.)

Our Home On The World Wide Web

Until I have the ability to build a 3D virtual museum in a metaverse (which takes time, money, dedication, and has a steep learning curve), I plan to start posting content on this website through photo essays on the blog about our history. They will contain scans of the paper artifacts I printed out in 2004 but aren’t online anymore, and donated digital artifacts like photos, IRC logs, and screenshots.

Again, if you have anything to contribute to this project, please e-mail me! Thank you!
